Neighborhood coffee shops around Seattle have been opening up their broadband internet access free to patrons for years now. So take that laptop you got for Christmas and, firstly, find a bag for it - either at Tom Bihn Bags or Glazers Camera. Then surf over to Caffeinated and Unstrung, a website that has a very comprehensive list with details about all the popularily known Seattle wireless venues. Now walk to your local wireless coffee house and do some work, check your email or just browse the web. Grab some coffee (or Tea), sit back and relax for a couple hours or until your battery dies. You can then write a review at the website to help other wireless seekers find a good spot. This article from the PI is a great resource and introduction to the use of wireless and coffee.
Just try not to spill your coffee or muffin crumbs onto you computer.
Another interesting resource is Seattle Wireless, a website that has a list of open wireless networks that have been found in the city. If you are looking for an apartment and don't want to pay $50/month for broadband internet, you could use this to help find a location within Wi-Fi range.
Find out more about what Wi-Fi is. Read local expert Glenn Fleishman's explanation at the Wi-Fi Networking News.
