The PI is reporting that Seattle actress and playwright, Nicole duFresne, was shot and killed during a robbery attempt in New York City where she had lived for two years.

From the PI:

Nicole duFresne, 28, had just left a bar in a trendy section of the Lower East Side with her fiance and another couple early Thursday when they were approached by four or five men.

Witnesses told investigators that one of the men grabbed for the other woman's purse and duFresne intervened, asking, "What are you going to do, shoot us?" A man then fired one shot at her, police said.

New York post reporting here.

From the 'sphere here , here and here. Gawker story here.

duFresne was best known in Seattle for co-writing the play 'Burning Cage' along with Mary Jane Gibson who was also present for the events leading to duFresne's death. 'Burning Cage' was performed during Seattle's 2002 Fringe Festival where it was referred to by Stranger Theater writer, Tamara Paris, as "funny, harrowing, and balls-out brave--an unusual and thrilling theatrical experience."

according to what she told me, i knew nicole better than anyone else in her life. and i can tell you that she wouldn't want her murder to further any sort of racial prejudice. if anyone feels a need to feel anger on her behalf, please direct it at the gun lobby that made it so easy for a disenfranchised, unloved, angry young man to obtain a Taurus .357 Magnum. he murdered her because she wasn't afraid of him, and he wanted her to be, and because all he had to do was push a button.

ask any african american who ever knew or worked with nicole what her attitude toward them was, and you'll find that ReQuia is right -- she believed in, and LOVED, the HUMAN race.

    Liz,

I totally understand that you are sorrowed by Nicole's death, but please dont make it seem as if all blacks of low income are troubled. Race has nothing to do with why people get killed. People kill people, period. There are racist crimes that are committed everyday, but dont drag a race down as a whole, whether black or white. Open up your eyes and read what you wrote and you will see that you have just as much HATE in your heart as the people who commit these crimes do. Stay true to yourself and belive that we are all part of one race...the human race.

Nicole and her friends were attacked because of racial hatred and jealousy. Those young people saw those happy white people and got angry and decided to rob them. One of the girls even admitted that! In Minnesota since the 1980's, decent hard working whites in the metro area have been attacked, beaten and even killed by blacks and black gangs who came to Minnesota from Chicago, and other places to get welfare, and subsidized housing and to show their appreciation for this, they have killed and robbed many Minnesotans! An initiation for their gangs is to kill a white man, and they have done that several times here for no reason. I was riding a bus to the Mall of America, and for no reason a young black teenager punched me in the head. Many young white men have been beaten by them for no reason. This is not to say they dont go after their own kind, but the media is not allowing anyone to say that some black on white crimes are racist.

Wake up Americans! Go to new nation new and read the truth! I remember a woman's car ran out of gas in a black neighborhood in Boston and they burned her alive. You will see other new like that on New Nation News on the internet.

Animals don't kill without the reason. It was a human who took her life. Humans are those to be afraid of. Hope those involved in the crime burn in hell..

  • Your Mom's Box

The animals who committed this crime should fry. Let justice be done, their is no defense for this crime. Fry all five of these animals.
